Biography

Gerdi Gutperle was born in Olmütz, Moravia in 1944. After many years of intensive interest in the evolution of the visual arts, she discovered her special talent for painting in 1998. This discovery was followed by extended periods of work in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, above all in Italy and Spain. A series of project fundings led Gerdi Gutperle to Carmen del Campo in Marbella, Spain, to Professor Rudi Wach in Innsbruck, Austria and to other instructors. She also studied with Pieter Sohl in Heidelberg, Germany and Ernestine Repsch at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Gerdi Gutperle’s teachers encouraged her to continue pursuing her fundamentally experimental approach, which involves the exploration of various artistic techniques and media. Allowing herself to be inspired by the diverse shapes of the natural world exerts an essential influence on Gerdi Gutperle’s artistic style and continually flows into her artworks, which are distinguished by their fourfold harmony of layers, structures, color and light.

As a freelance artist, Gerdi Gutperle is inspired by the vision of using the funds raised by sales of her art to support social foundations which she has founded. These include the
Child Care Center in India and a foundation to assist victims of the recent tsunami. Her dedication to art was further expanded to include a curatorial aspect when she celebrated the grand opening of Kunstraum Gerdi Gutperle in Viernheim.

Gerdi Gutperle lives and works in Hirschberg an der Bergstrasse. Many of her artworks have been acquired by public and private collections.
